SOUTH ISLAND STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONS CROWNED

24/02/2020

Jaeseung Na and Yeonseo Son have won the South Island Strokeplay titles in a rain affected event held at St Clair Golf Club over the weekends.

The two new winners won their events in two completely different styles. Na won the men’s event by a single stroke at 10-under par after three rounds, while Son romped to an 11-shot victory in the women’s event.

Son fired impressive rounds of 67, 75, and 69 to finish at 11-under with her nearest rival Sumin Kang finishing at even-par. She rattled off 14 birdies for the week in a dominant performance which sees her capture her maiden national title.

Meanwhile Na captured his title in a much tighter spectacle. He carded rounds of 66, 70, and 67 to win by a single stroke and capture the victory in dramatic fashion over local golfer Sungwoo Han.

Na birdied the final hole of the tournament to get to the 10-under number. Han unfortunately would bogey the 18th to fall out of a tie for the lead and finish in second place.

St Clair once again presented a great challenge for all players, with two very worth winners of the South Island Strokeplay found once again in 2020.
