MANAWATU/WANGANUI MARCH ON AT NZ WOMEN'S INTERPROVINCIALS

4/12/2019

Manawatu/Wanganui continue to turn heads at the New Zealand Women’s Interprovincials held at Maraenui Golf Club, maintaining their perfect record after round four of the tournament.

Having beaten Wellington and Hawkes Bay Poverty Bay on day one, they continued their winning ways today beating Aorangi 4-1 and Taranaki 5-0.

They now sit on top of Division One on four points and 18 games, ahead of three-time defending champions Auckland who are on three points and 15 games.

Notable performances came from number one Tara Raj who finished another day without a loss. She’s beaten Aorangi’s Ginny Bolderston 5&4 this morning, before squeezing out a win against Tineka Kumeora from Taranaki in a closely fought contest this afternoon.

Manawatu/Wanganui face Otago tomorrow morning, before having their bye in the afternoon.

Looming closely behind in Division One is Auckland. They’re also yet to drop a game in the tournament and will look to put pressure on the current leaders tomorrow as they’ve already had their bye.

They were hot out of the blocks this morning against Hawkes Bay Poverty Bay winning their first three matches out on the course by 6&5, 6&5, and 6&4.

However, the number one and two matches weren’t so clear cut and came right down to the wire. Fiona Xu and Vivian Lu showed their golfing pedigree and managed to scrape through with 1up wins respectively and kept their perfect record intact.

In Division Two, North Harbour are on top of proceedings also being undefeated after day two of the tournament.

After beating Northland and Waikato yesterday, the North Harbour ladies also continued their forward momentum defeating Tasman 4.5-0.5 after having their bye this morning. They’re on three points and 13 games.

They sit one point ahead of Canterbury who are on two points and 10 games, and Bay of Plenty who are on two points with six and a half games. The Bay have also had both of their byes.

North Harbour have a blockbuster match tomorrow morning which could determine who finishes on top of their division come Friday. They face Bay of Plenty at 8.05am and have a bye in the afternoon.
