BROWN SHOOTS LIGHTS OUT TO PROGRESS TO FINAL STAGE OF JAPAN Q-SCHOOL

19/11/2019

New Zealand’s newest professional Luke Brown has played the golf of his young career to progress through the third stage of Japanese Tour Qualifying School at Golf 5 Country Sunny Field.

Brown fired an impressive 14-under par over the weekend to come back from a lacklustre start to successfully finish inside the top 31 players who progressed through to the final stage of qualifying. He finished in 15th place at 10-under par, after rounds of 76, 70, 65, and 63.

After announcing his transition into the professional game at the beginning of last week, Brown is naturally very excited that his chance at playing on the Japanese Tour is still alive.

“I obviously didn’t get off to the greatest of starts shooting five-over par in the first round. Having said that I actually felt quite comfortable and I knew I was pretty close to playing some good golf.

“It was much the same in the second round, it was really close, but I hadn’t quite clicked yet. I think seeing my name a bit further down the leader board after two rounds gave me a push to make something happen, and thankfully I did in the third round,” said a chuffed Brown.

The Northlander fired six-under par on moving day to give himself a chance at making the last group of people to progress through to the final stage. He holed his second shot for eagle on his 12th hole of day, triggering a strong finish to keep him in the race for a tour card.

“I was really happy with how I played in the third round, but it wasn’t something I could celebrate as I still needed a round just as good or better to make it through.

“Playing the way I did in the final round when it really mattered, proved to me that my golf is good enough to compete with the rest. I just need to go and do it again in final stage,” said Brown

The final stage of Japanese Tour Q-School is from 5th of December at Central Golf Club in Japan
