New Zealand Golf have named a team to compete in The Spirit International held at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Texas later this year.

Matt McLean (Harewood), Jared Edwards (Royal Auckland & Grange), Wenyung Keh (Pakuranga), and Momoka Kobori (Rangiora) make up the four-person squad who represent New Zealand at this championship for the first time since 2007. New Zealand earned an invitation to this event through our fourth-place finish at the Eisenhower Trophy, and our 19th place finish at the Espirito Santo Trophy last year.

Jared Edwards replaces the promoted Tyler Wood who was selected for the Nomura Cup in place of the unavailable Harry Hillier.

Matt McLean and Jared Edwards will combine for the men’s side, with Keh and Kobori coming together to form the women’s team. The four will also combine and play for the overall teams competition as well as compete in an individual event.

The tournament will be held from November 4 – 10 with 80 top amateur golfers representing 20 different countries across six continents all competing for the championship. Medals will be presented to the top three countries as well as individuals. The tournament is conducted in alternate years to World Amateur Team Championships (WATC).

There are five different competition formats included in the event: International team combined best-ball, men’s combined best-ball, women’s combined best-ball, as well as a men’s individual and women’s individual competitions.
