Golf is in full flight over the country and the South Island under 19 Championships has just come to an end with Hiroki Miya of Russley Golf Club taking the victory in dominant fashion at Tinwald Golf Club.

With a comfortable lead heading into the final round, there was only ever going to be one result as he finished at -11 to win by three shots.

With rounds of 66, 67 and 72 Miya it was a clinical performance to beat fellow Russley golfer, Tom Parker. It was a two horse race at best with the next best at two under par.

In the women's field it was a battle of the locals as Julianna Hung just held off Hillary O'Conner
In the women's section the Canterbury players achieved the trifecta with Juliana Hung of Russley Russley Golf Club holding onto the top position overnight to win the major championship with rounds of 72, 74, 71 and two under par for the championship with club player Hillary O'Connor just one shot further back at one under par.
Hillary recovered well after a slow start to tie the course record of three under par (70) in the second round and then two under in the final round. Nine year old Jeong Hyun Lee of Christchurch Golf Club showed her class not only winning the Under 13 Girls section but also by finishing third overall on five over for the tournament.
