Pre-qualifying for the BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Men’s Open is about to commence from all corners of the country.

With the first round of Regional Qualifying starting on Monday 8th February, all roads lead to Queenstown where some of our youngest golfing talents get the chance to qualify for the biggest men’s tournament in New Zealand.

Titirangi, Paraparaumu, Christchurch and Chisholm Park Golf Club's have all earnt the right to play host for 2016 and all provide their individual beauty and challenges for the players.

To pursue the dream of playing in New Zealand’s Open Championship, players must first gain one of the 25 qualifying places available at the regional stage before competing in Final Qualifying at either Cromwell Golf Club or Royal Auckland Golf Club.

With 125 players entered into Regional Qualifying and another 75 expected to enter Final Qualifying the eight spots available into the BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open are at a premium.

However players only need to look back to 2014 where Jordan Bakermans was successful at the regional stage in Christchurch and went on to gain a coveted position in Final Qualifying. Bakermans went on that year to claim the Bledislode Cup for the leading Amateur in the New Zealand Open.

Top 50 Order of Merit on the New Zealand PGA and Top 10 on the New Zealand Golf Order of Merit rankings gain automatic entry to the final stages of qualifying and will make up the Final Qualifying field alongside players on the Australian PGA Tour category lists that don’t make the final New Zealand Open field.

Qualifying at Paraparaumu, Christchurch and Chisholm Park Golf Club's is on Monday with Titirangi starting on the Tuesday. Both Regional and Final Qualifying is over 18 holes.

BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open Tournament Director, Michael Glading is looking forward to seeing the results which will no doubt add to the already impressive field.

“We are delighted to see all the entries and talent coming through for the qualifying tournaments. It is exciting to see they are being played all over the country and we wish everyone all the best as we near the big week in Queenstown,” said Glading.
