CHARLES TOUR: ASK>METRO MURIWAI OPEN: MA CLAIMS LEAD

10/05/2013

North Harbour rep Sai Ma birdied the final two holes this evening to earn the lead at the halfway satge of the ask>metro Muriwai Open.

The North Shore golfer, who led the North Island Stroke Play for three out of four rounds at Poverty Bay only to lose to Munchin Keh in a playoff, has a great chance to win her first national title.

Ma carded a one under par 71 in the second round to get back to even par and lead by three strokes from North Harbour pro Jenna Hunter at the halfway stage.

Hunter, who opened with a superb four under par 68, faded with a seven over par 79 in the wind to slip back to second place. Taranaki professional Sally Choi, who won at New Plymouth is a further shot back on a four over par total.

Ma’s round was the talking point in the testing conditions. She made five birdies and four bogeys in all as she continued her good form in national events on home turf.
