CASSIDY BOUNCES BACK TO SHARE LEAD WITH CAMPBELL

21/03/2013

Former New Zealand rep Chantelle Cassidy has reminded everyone of her quality with a one under par 73 to claim a share of the lead with Alanna Campbell in the New Zealand Stroke Play Championship.

Cassidy, who narrowly missed selection for the World Amateur Team Championship in Turkey last year, had the joint best round at the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club.

Impressive North Harbour rep Lita Guo, who won the LawnMaster Classic at the Manawatu Golf Club, is only one shot back.

There is a six way tie for fourth place with Sarah Bradley, Brydie Hodge, Wenyung Keh, Brittney Dryland, Te Rongopai Clay and Alanna Campbell within striking distance. The talking point though was Cassidy and Campbell.

“It is great to be back and playing in national events,” said the 20-year-old Cassidy from the Putaruru Golf Club.

“I have missed these events and playing some of the best courses around New Zealand is good fun. It is always good to test yourself against the other girls from around the country.

“This course is in really good condition and the greens are perfect. I think the key to my scoring today was my putting. I got the pace of the greens early on and that helped. I was hitting the ball well and I managed to convert the opportunities that I set up.

“It is going to be a good week here and there a lot good players in the field so it is good to be back playing with them.”

Auckland No.1 Munchin Keh and Wellington No.1 Julianne Alvarez were not at their best with rounds of one over par 75 and three over par 77 respectively.
