SOUTH ISLAND STROKE PLAY: MUN CHIN ENJOYS BIG WIN AT ST CLAIR

18/02/2013

There was some history made in the women’s field of the South Island Stroke Play when Auckland No.1 Mun Chin Keh won another national title by eight shots from Wellington No.1 Julianne Alvarez.

The New Zealand Amateur Champion, who last year made her senior international debut at the Espirito Santo World Team Championship, carded a three under par 71 in the final round to easily hold off her NZ team-mate.

Keh finished on a 16 under par total for the four round event and her six under par 68 in the third round was a course record for the women’s layout that hosted the Toro Women’s Interprovincial in December.

It was a fine performance from the 20-year-old from the Titirangi Golf Club who will look to defend her New Zealand Amateur title from April 24 – 28 at the Manawatu Golf Club.

Alvarez, who finished runner-up at the LawnMaster Classic on the Charles Tour, added another second place finish to her record after carding a four under par 70 in the final round.

Wenyung Keh finished 14 shots back from her older sister in third place and another New Zealand rep Sarah Bradley finished in fourth place.

But the women’s honours belonged to Mun Chin Keh who was in a class of her own at St Clair.
