NZ SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP: PATERSON CLAIMS THE LEAD AT TAUPO

8/02/2013

Royal Auckland golfer Brent Paterson was the only player to go under par with a 70 in the opening round of the New Zealand Seniors Championships in Taupo.

Starting off the 10thhole, Paterson made a fast start to be two under par after three holes.

But bogeys on 14 and 16, part of Taupo Centennial course’s Amen Corner, had him back to par by the turn.

He dropped another shot on the first hole but rallied and came home strong with three birdies for a two under par 70.

Paterson leads by two shots from a group of three players who carded rounds of even par 72 on day one. They are Stuart Duff (Hastings), Tony Clemett (Avondale) and Mike Leitch (Maungakiekie).

In perfect weather, with plenty of run on the fairways and greens in great condition, the scoring is very compacted with 35 players within six shots of the lead and two rounds to play.
