CHARLES TOUR: JOHN JONES STEEL HAREWOOD OPEN: PERRY ON TRACK FOR TITLE NUMBER SEVEN

21/10/2012

In the women’s field, New Zealand rep Emily Perry showed the value of experience in the third round with a two over par 74 enough to claim a three shot lead from Waikato team mate Sarah Bradley and Wellington No.1 Julianne Alvarez.

Perry, a six time winner on the Charles Tour, who is playing in her final amateur event, backed up her rounds of 71 and 72 with a two over par 74.

“I hit the ball the best I have in about a year, I just didn’t make any putts,” said the 21-year-old from the Lochiel Golf Club.

“But I started off ok and then had a couple of bogeys in a row and then made nine straight pars coming home.”

The New Zealand Stroke Play Champion is enjoying the tight battle at this event.

“It is good to have some good competition and everyone is having under par rounds as well. I am looking forward to going out tomorrow and playing with the leading girls.

“It is quite a good goal to try and win my seventh Charles Tour title. I like that it has a pro atmosphere and that is where I am heading and this is great preparation for me.”

Bradley couldn’t back up her heroics from round two where she shot her best competitive round – a five under par 67 to claim the lead.

Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) had a two over par 74 in round three to climb one place into fourth.

But all eyes will be on Emily Perry tomorrow to see if she can sign off with seven Charles Tour titles to her name as she prepares for Ladies European Tour qualifying in Morocco in December.
