Sarah Bradley has come home from the Michael Campbell Foundation Scholarship an inspired golfer.

Bradley signed for a five under par 67 today at the Harewood Open- her best competitive round - and claimed a one shot lead from fellow Waikato rep Emily Perry.

The Waikato amateur, who carded a three over par 75 in round one, felt like she was on the cusp of something special after playing her final 10 or 11 holes in round one well.

“I went out there today and knew that my game was where it needed to be and I just had to relax and enjoy it. Usually I try and force it too much and it can go the other way.

“I have learned a lot recently with my time with Michael Campbell over in Spain and I have working hard with my coach Reon Sayer and I am just going out there and knowing I have the stuff to do it.”

Bradley has been working on a power move in her swing, she has a new putter but the main thing is: “I am working on my enjoyment and keeping it really simple”.

She was six under at 14 and felt an adrenalin rush which led to a bogey.

“I hit this shot and I thought it was perfect but it flew 30 yards over the green because I read the yardage wrong. I made a great up and down from where I was stymied dead to make bogey. So I was five under and then got it back to six under.

“Going down 18 it was just adrenalin. I got out of my process for a while. I haven’t been in that position for a while. I wanted to make another birdie but I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow.

“It is so cool that I have the record here, well at least until I break it tomorrow. I enjoyed it a lot and will remember this day for a while.”
