OOM EXPLANATION

2013 New Zealand Golf Order of Merit (OOM)

The following is to explain how the 2013 OOM will operate. Following a review of the 2010 formula, there have been a number of changes introduced, with the objective to make it a fairer system for all. Please note that the rankings are an indication only is only one of a number of factors that is considered in regard to national selection.

·         Points are awarded for identified events. These can be found at
http://www.golf.co.nz/Tournaments/OOMTournaments.aspx

·         Points awarded are totaled during the year, and divided by the number of events played. The minimum divisor in a calendar year will be 12 for the men and 8 for the women.

·         Point values vary depending on the Category awarded to the event which is based on importance and field strength. There are 4 categories for local events. A 5th category is for major international events

·         The points breakdown changes in 2013, reflecting an allocation similar to the purse breakdown in a PGA Tour event. Where players tie, the points will be shared (no count back as in 2010).

·         Category 1, points awarded to top 50 men and top 30 women

Category 2, points awarded to the top 40 and top 25 women

Category 3, points awarded to the top 30 men and top 20 women

Category 4, points awarded to the top 20 men and top 15 women

·         The important match play Championships will also earn points as per the table below.
