BONIFACE WINS AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S SENIOR AMATEUR

27/10/2017

New Zealand’s Robyn Boniface has defeated two-time champion Robyn Puckett of Queensland 2&1 in the Australian Women's Senior Amateur Championship this afternoon.

With wind the major obstacle at Maroochy River Golf Club, Boniface showed her class and patience to claim an impressive title in Australia.

A large Queensland crowd watched the lead see-saw throughout the early stages of the contest, until Boniface took a two hole lead through 13, which proved to be the winning margin.

“I love playing with such lovely people on such a wonderful course,” beamed Boniface.

“Robyn’s [Puckett] been such a great player for so long. We’ve played together and against each other numerous times, but it’s an honour to the win the Australian Women’s Senior Championship after this one.”

This makes for an amazing Kiwi double with Brent Paterson taking home the men’s title last week by a whopping nine strokes to make for a fantastic seven days of Trans-Tasman rivalry in golf, not rugby.

The age division winners were:

New Age Flight: Alex Belonogoff Qld

Veterans Flights: Jill Blenkey NSW

Super Veterans Flight: Lyn Bennett WA

Super Veterans Plus Flight: Liz Smyth ACT
