FOX MAKE OPEN CUT BUT FALLS DOWN LEADERBOARD

20/07/2019

Kiwi number one Ryan Fox has made the cut at The Open Championship despite being unable to back up his record-breaking opening round.

After making headlines for shooting the lowest back nine in The Open history, Fox couldn’t continue his blistering form in round two shooting a four-over round of 75. He sits at one-over par for the championship, in a tie for 58th position.

Starting in a tie for third at the beginning of his second round, Fox got off to a difficult start bogeying two of the opening three holes. He’d quickly steady the ship with a birdie at the difficult fifth to make the turn at one-over par for the day.

Birdies were far scarcer on the back nine of his second round as Fox would drop a further three shots coming home, signing for four-over par.

He’s nine shots back of joint leaders Shane Lowry, and J.B Holmes going into the weekend.

Tournament favourite Rory McIlroy missed the cut despite shooting six-under for his second round. Tiger Woods is also taking the weekend off as he's six-over for the championship.
