HILLIER QUALIFIES FOR DEBUT MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP AT US OPEN!

4/06/2019

New Zealand’s leading amateur Daniel Hillier has officially qulified for one of the world’s most famous championships overnight, the US Open.

After qualifying at the Walton Heath Golf Club with a two-round total of eight-under par, he is one of 14 players who get the chance to compete against the world’s best at Pebble Beach from June 13-16.

Not only will Hillier be ecstatic about qualifying for his first Major Championship, it will be played at the same course where he famously finished as the leading qualifier at last year’s US Amateur Championship which will make him feel more at home.

He joins recognised players such as Thomas Pieters, Marcus Fraser, Bernd Wiesberger and recent European Tour champion Marcus Kinhult to book their boarding pass to the 119th US Open.

Joining Hillier in California will be New Zealand number one Ryan Fox after he shot rounds of 70 and 67 to come tied seventh on five-under at a different qualifying section in Brookside, USA.

Danny Lee only just missed out after finishing the two-round event in Brookside tied 22nd with rounds of 69 and 70 for three-under, just one shot outside the cut's top 14.
