DANNY LEE SOARS INTO 2ND AT PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

17/05/2019

Danny Lee has produced a round to remember at the second major of the year, the PGA Championship to sit at six-under par and be just a single shot behind the in-form and defending champion Brooks Koepka.

Lee is also three shots ahead of the third placed Tommy Fleetwood as he surrounds himself in great golfing company at the challenging Bethpage Black in New York.

With four birdies on the front nine, Lee backed it up with four more on the back nine with just two bogeys for the day. He finished the round in fine style with back to back birdies on 17 and 18 to launch his way into contention.

Sitting 53rd in the FedEx Cup rankings, Lee produced three back-to-back birdies in the middle of his round to post his lowest score in a major championship. His best finish in a major is currently tied for 17th at the Masters in 2016.

This sets up an exciting second round for the Kiwi with Lee the first player on course nice and early at 6:45am local time.

Ryan Fox was unable to find his groove overnight and finished the opening round with an eight-over par 78 which leaves him tied for 150th.
