VICTORIOUS VOKE ON PGA TOUR OF CHINA

9/09/2018

New Zealand’s Nick Voke has claimed his maiden professional and PGA Tour of China victory at the Qinhuangdao Championship in a thrilling playoff.

After recording a superb Sunday round of six-under 66, it took an extra two sudden-death holes to defeat England’s Stephen Lewton with a clutch birdie two from 25-feet.

Things have been shaping in the right direction for Voke who came tied fourth last week and now the former New Zealand number one amateur has a recorded a win in his first year as a professional.

“This victory opens up some opportunities for me and it’s pretty exciting to see what doors can open from it,” said Voke, who graduated from Iowa State University in 2017 after a college career featuring five victories.

“If I don’t qualify for the Web.com Tour, I will play here in China. I feel it’s the best pathway to get to the Web.com Tour and hopefully play well enough there to get through that pathway [to the PGA TOUR].”

With rounds of 71, 70, 69 and 66 Voke slowly played his way into contention before saving his best till last by coming back from two shots behind Lewton.

Iowa State University will be celebrating Kiwi success this weekend after Voke’s efforts, combined with Denzel Ieremia’s performance at the Eisenhower Trophy who led the Kiwis to fourth place.
