FOX FINISHES STRONG AS FRANCESCO FINDS GLORY

20/07/2018

Ryan Fox has completed his fourth and final round at a total of two-over par to finish in a tie for 39th while Francesco Molinari becomes the first Italian to win The Open Championship.

The Aucklander finished a long week with his first under-par round of the Championship, carding two birdies and one bogey to complete a one-under par, 70 at Carnoustie Links Golf Club, Scotland.

“I’m happy, but a little frustrated as well, the last two days could have been significantly better. I made my fair share of par putts, but left a few birdies out there on the greens, but that’s golf and Carnoustie has always had number,” said Fox.

It’s been a thrilling month for an emotional Fox and his supporters on the other side of the world.

“My emotions are all over the show, I have just been taking it week to week after great results in Ireland and Scotland.

“The support has been fantastic, there have been so many Kiwis here and I appreciate all the support.”

After an extremely busy month, Fox will now take a well-deserved break before embarking on another major championship in the form of the PGA Championship from August 9-12.

But it was Molinari’s day as he claimed the Claret Jug in style to win by two shots in one of the more action-packed major championships in some time.

With Tiger in the hunt and six players tied for the lead entering the dying stages, the 147th Open Championship will be remembered with ease.
