JUNIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS

9/05/2018

The biennial Junior Open Championship returns in 2018 with Wellington’s Jayden Ford and Canterbury’s Juliana Hung making the trip to the home of golf, St Andrews (Eden Course) in July.

Founded in 1994, the event allows all golfing nations affiliated to The R&A to enter an under-16 boy and girl player (as of 1 January 2018) and is yet another aid to help grow the game of golf and now creates an amazing opportunity for our two Kiwis.

The junior event coincides with this year’s Open Championship which will be held just 50 minutes north at Carnoustie where all competitors are then chaperoned to attend one of the world’s biggest spectacles at the conclusion of their own event, to experience the first two rounds.

Ford has continued to go from strength to strength, while Hung shone at the recent New Zealand Amateur Championship as she looks to go head-to-head against some of the world’s best young talent.

Pedro Lencart Silva posted a round of six-under-par 67 to seal a convincing win in 2016 at the Junior Open at Kilmarnock (Barassie), showcasing how much talent is on display in the 54-hole event.

All players will play 36 holes stroke play after which the players with the best 80 gross scores and ties will play for the title of Junior Open Champion in the final round.
