New Zealand Golf is saddened to advise of the passing of one of Auckland Golf’s greatest representative players in Peter Burney.

Peter was a loyal representative of both the Manukau Golf Club and Auckland in the 1970’s. He had a long list of achievements which included winning the Auckland Provincial Match Play title in 1970, 1971, 1975 and 1976.

He was a New Zealand representative at the 10th World Teams Championship in 1976 in Portugal, member of the inaugural winning Kelliher Trophy Challenge of his beloved Manukau in 1973 and member of the winning Toro Interprovincial Auckland team in 1970 and 1975.

Additional achievements:

  • Winner of the1974 New Zealand Foursomes Championship with fellow Manukau member R.J.Carr
  • Winner of the 1974 O’Rorke Challenge Vase with fellow Manukau members R.J.Carr and P.K.Cleland
  • Winner of several Stewart Gold Cups
  • Auckland representative 1970 to 1977

He will be sadly missed by the New Zealand and Auckland golfing fraternity as we pay our respects for a great career and also to his family and friends.
