KIWI AMATEUR TEAM CHALLENGE

21/11/2017

New Zealand Golf is excited to announce its support of the inaugural Kiwi Amateur Team Challenge which is off to a great start. There are 20 events being held around the North Island between now and April 2018.

Their next event is only two weeks away with Martinborough on the 17th of December and Whakatane being their third event on the 13th January.

The event came from a thought that an Amateur Teams event should be held to enable the normal club member and his friends the opportunity to win a national title.

Owen Williams from GMI Limited, the event organiser, says “ We are delighted to offer the inaugural Kiwi Amateur Team Challenge to 20 clubs around the North Island this year and are keen to expand it to the rest of the country in subsequent years. The event has been designed to provide each participating club both income from the day and a full clubhouse for the prize giving.

New Zealand Golf also has a strong focus on the growth of the game at grass roots level and as such is very supportive of initiatives that encourage participation at our golf clubs. The idea of a club based teams event enthuses New Zealand Golf CE Dean Murphy.

“We are thrilled to see this concept come to life and are sure that many golf clubs around the country will welcome this as an attractive initiative to be part of, particularly around promoting the team side of the game,” said Murphy.

“We encourage our members to get behind the Kiwi Amateur Team Challenge and enjoy the game as a team environment along with the added incentive to win a national title with your teammates.”

The format is best three stableford scores of the four players on each hole with teams of four being split on the day so that two players from each team will play with two others from another team, their scores still count for their entered team.

All teams must be of the same gender and everyone must have an official handicap.

Prizes will go down to the fifth team with the winning team being awarded to play in the final at Wairakei International staying at the fabulous Wairakei Resort for two nights.

The winning team from the final at Wairakei will win a trip for four including flights to Australia and accommodation for seven nights playing at some great courses on the Sunshine Coast. This trip has been sponsored by Charlie’s Golf Tours.

Each player will receive an awesome starter pack consisting of a shoe bag, golf towel, cap, pen, snack, drink and a sleeve of TaylorMade TP5s. The entry fee is $260 per team. For more info, check out www.kiwichallenge.co.nz
