Kiwi golfers, either amateur or professional, will get a unique chance to contest the first ever LPGA Tour golf event to be staged in New Zealand.

The MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open, to be held at Windross Farm golf course in Ardmore, Auckland on 28 September to 1 October, will offer three additional spots in the US$1.3 million event from a final qualifying event.

The final qualifying tournament will be held on Monday 25 September at Royal Auckland Golf Club with the top three players earning starts in what could be a life-changing opportunity at the MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open.

Entries close on 14 September and can be made from New Zealand Golf at

The field for the LPGA’s first venture to New Zealand will comprise 90 players from the LPGA, 15 from the Australian Ladies Professional Golf as well as a number
from New Zealand Golf and Tournament Invitations.

“This is our national open and, as such, it’s an important part of our ethos that there is a qualifying opportunitity for aspiring women golfers. This final qualifying is a chance for players from either New Zealand or overseas to play in an LPGA tournament” said MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open Tournament Director, Michael Goldstein.

“To make the field provides a rare chance to experience playing against some of the best in the world, and who knows, it may end up being a life-changing experience if they play well.”

New Zealand Golf also believe it will offer additional chances for up-and-coming amateurs.

“The MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open is an incredible occasion to showcase this country and our golf courses to the world,” said New Zealand Golf General Manager, Dave Mangan.

“It also offers an amazing opportunity for our young players. The best of them will earn invitations to play and the final qualifying event is a unique chance for amateurs to gain entry to an LPGA event in their own country.”

The final qualifying event will operate a two-tee start from 8am, with playoffs in the case of any ties either for the Open directly or for alternate spots.

There is a maximum handicap of three for amateur golfers.
