LEE WITHDRAWS FROM JOHN DEERE CLASSIC

14/07/2017

Danny Lee has withdrawn from the John Deere Classic straight after his first round with injury troubles.

Lee carded an opening round of three-over 74 on the PGA Tour before confirming his withdrawal.

"Sorry everyone I can't keep going this with shoulder and wrist injury @JDCLASSIC not happy I have to WD this week," Lee mentioned on Twitter this morning.

This leaves his chances of playing in the Open Championship even less likely as he still remains second reserve to play next week at Royal Birkdale.

With his shoulder and wrist causing him pain, Lee is hopefully just taking a precaution so he can potentially join fellow kiwis Ryan Fox and Mike Hendry at The Open.

Tim Wilkinson made a solid start, signing for an opening round of two-under 69 to be tied for 37th, six shots behind co-leaders Charles Howell and Ollie Schniederjans.

The third Kiwi in the field, Steven Alker, matched Lee with a three-over 74 and will need a low second round to make the cut.
