The highly regarded Lakes Resort in Pauanui will host the New Zealand Men’s Mid Amateur Championship from October 12 – 14.


Entries for the championship, which is for affiliated men’s golfers on all handicaps, are open until October 1. The mid-amateur requires players to be at least 30 years of age.


Past winners of the New Zealand Mid Amateur title include Dean Sipson, Glen Goldfinch, Martin Tumata and Malcolm Wells. Michael Perrin (Bay of Islands Kerikeri) has won the past two events and will be looking to complete a rare feat by winning the event three times in succession.


Perrin will have his work cut out at The Lakes Resort Golf Course in Pauanui which is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading championship layouts.


The course is nestled in a unique valley setting and meanders its way through picturesque natural native wetlands and lakes


It has hosted a number of International events including the Australia versus New Zealand match for the Nagle Charles Challenge Trophy and the annual Legends Charity Pro Am.


This is the second time the course will stage a New Zealand Golf event, after the 2009 National Club Final, and it will provide a good test for golfers of all abilities from around New Zealand.


The format is Friday 12 October, 36 holes qualifying. Divisions of 16 determined then Match Play with flights guaranteeing at least five rounds of tournament golf.
