Masterton amateur Ben Campbell has bowed out in round one of the 117thBritish Amateur Championship at Royal Troon.
The New Zealand No.2, who has finished runner-up twice in the Australian Amateur, was beaten at the 20thhole in what was a great battle with American Tyler Raber.
Campbell, who is ranked 152 in the world, was the only Kiwi to progress to the match play stages of the event was beaten on extra holes by Raber who is ranked 836 in the world.
It is a disappointing result for the Kiwi contingent contesting The Amateur Championship with the hope the event would provide good international competition ahead of the Eisenhower World Team’s Championship in Turkey in October.
