Club Captains Newsletter - January

Rangitikei Golf Club

Welcome to the 2015 Golf Season. It’s been a great spell of weather since Christmas. The course is starting to show the signs of no rain of consequence for almost a month. The course is still in great order. The scoring over the last couple of weeks has been as hot as the weather. Make the most of the summer conditions while they last.

Members Handbook:
Elizabeth Kinloch & I have almost competed the Ladies & Mens programme for the 2015/16 golf season. It is our wish to have the Members Handbook available from the beginning of February.
Please keep the 14th February free as this is the Club Opening Day with the competition being Mixed and Men’s Canadian Foursomes. So Men to avoid disappointment ask Ladies to be your partner as soon as possible.
Canadian Foursomes: Both players tee off at each hole and afterwards continue with alternate shots with whichever ball they nominate. Handicap allowance is 50% of combined handicaps. Score as for Stroke Play
Please note that the Club Championships will be played in the autumn this year. Why you may ask, because a remit was passed at the 2013 AGM requesting this and it was passed by the members present. The Ladies and the Mens qualifying for the Club Championships will be over three rounds; you need to play in two of those three rounds to qualify.

Representative Golf Teams for 2015:

• Mens B Grade Pennants
• Ladies Championship Pennants
• Mens Presidents Trophy
• Ladies Silver Pennants
• Mens Zones Team
• Ladies Weekend Pennants
I will be approaching some members to be the team captains in the near future. If you are interested in participating in any of the representative teams please let me know.
Good to see so many teams representing Rangitikei Golf Club this year, we wish all those members participation all the best in respective competitions. I will endeavour to keep members updated on the team’s results as the season progresses.

Storytime:
On Saturday, two of our members where heard to being giving President Noel a hard time about not joining them at the Rat Hole for a beer after closing the clubhouse and before going home to his lovely wife. Apparently they had invited Noel on several occasions however Noel had never joined them. On this occasion, Noel said he may join the two rouges for a quick beer on his way home. My wife & I said we also call in at the Rat Hole to support a club sponsor.
Liz & I went into the Rat Hole, we caught up with Kelvin & Hone as they were leaving, however no sign of the two rouges. They stood us up. Did Noel turn up, our lips are sealed.
The two rouges could be brothers from a different mother (as the younger generation would say). What happened to Marty & his brother Russell the Pom?

Finally:
I will provide members with regular updates on what has happened and what is about to happen at our club. Iwill do this by as many forms of correspondence as I can. I will be using:
• e-mails, of course we need your e-mail address for this.
• Club notices on club days.
• Notice boards at the club house, located in the foyer and the Ladies changing rooms.
• Newsletter, available on club house tables.
Happy Golfing

January 2015

Happy New Year from the Rangitikei Golf Club.

We do hope you have enjoyed the endless summer and had plenty of golf. I have been out playing quite a bit and you have to love that summer golfing conditions where you get heaps and heaps of run. We have seen many people out playing our course which is fantastic.
We had a visit from a USA commentator that works with Craig Perks, and he talked to one of our members saying he was told this was the best course to play, which of course our member said Sure IS!!. He took many photos and played 9 holes with club president Noel. He will be writing up a report on our course and sending us the information to read.

Down on the 9th you would have seen a brand new picnic table that was made by Luke Kleinschmidt. It looks stunning, thank you Luke for making this for the club. People were instantly enjoying a seat after a round. Grab 1 has been going well, please tell your friends about it.

Course report: GUR has been painted blue with free drop off bare patches and tree roots.

Tournaments:
Xmas Cheer: Was such a success. Thanks to all of those who played and enjoyed the day and to all the helpers and sponsors Pete and Wendal Masters and Lion Brewery.
Shoot out: A real fun time was had by all, and it was a good twist this year, by having a second chance to play match play once you were out. It’s pretty serious out there and people are there to win, playing some fine golf. It felt a bit like Survivor outwit, outplay, outlast and the sole survivor was Ron Harris. Congratulations Ron. Runner up Lyndon Moore 3rd Bruce Kinloch 4th Bob Giles 5th Daniel Scotson. Knockout division: Winner Murray Bruhn r/up Hone Morris.

Club Opening Day: Is set for Saturday 14th February, which will be a mixed and mens Canadian Foursomes, sort your partner now!

Social Members: are you a social member and would like to continue the fab deal. Please check to see if you are current, and ring the clubhouse if you would like to continue. In the meantime letters have been sent out to social members.
Congratulations to the Club as we have reached over 150 members!!! A huge welcome to our newest members.

Happy New Year everyone from the Rangitikei Golf Club
