Nick Coxon 12/04/1996

Waikato amateur Nick Coxon first shot to prominence in 2012 when he claimed the first round lead of the New Zealand Stroke Play at the Hastings Golf Club.

Two years later in 2014 he has matured nicely into a regular competitor on the national scene. If there was any doubt that Coxon was a quality talent then he dismissed that when he knocked No.1 seed Blair Riordan out in round one of the New Zealand Amateur Championship at the Nelson Golf Club.
He has been a consistent performer on the New Zealand stage this year with top five results at the Grant Clements Memorial, the Muriwai Open and the North Island Stroke Play Championship. Last year, Coxon was the forgotten story at the opening Charles Tour event of the season at the LawnMaster Classic. He finished as the second amateur behind Luke Toomey who got within one shot of eventual champion Grant Moorhead.
The Waikato Rep seems like a player who is comfortable at the top of the leaderboard, he hits the ball a long way and plays golf like someone is chasing him (he is unbelievably quick).
The selection in Tier Two of the National Academy should do Coxon the world of good confidence-wise. He is a shy young man coming to terms with his very natural ability. Coxon has a huge amount of potential.
