Ben Campbell (8/20/1991)

Ben Campbell confirmed his class in 2010 when he won the Carrus Tauranga Open on the Charles Tour as an 18-year-old beating a field full of seasoned pros. He shot a six under 66 to win by five shots from Michael Hendry in a coming of age performance. He first announced his arrival when he defeated Danny Lee as a 16-year-old to claim the New Zealand Under 23 Championship. In 2010, after his Tauranga win, the Masterton teenager went onto achieve a fine amateur run of results around the world for the rest of 2010 as he was the highest placed Kiwi at the Asian Amateur Championship finishing T4th. The New Zealand Under 23 champion would have his best result for the year when he spearheaded the New Zealand team at the Eisenhower World Amateur Teams Championship to finish fourth overall – their best finish since they won the title in 1992. Campbell played well in the windy conditions to finish fourth in the individual standings. In 2011, he was painfully close to qualifying for The Masters when he finished third at the Asian Amateur Championship. Campbell is one of the most promising amateurs to come out of New Zealand since Danny Lee who famously was the first Kiwi to win the US Amateur and, at the time, the youngest in history. Campbell, who has been as high as no.6 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, is focused on following in the footsteps of Lee in becoming the World no.1 amateur before he turns professional.
